If your kid is just playing "Obbys" (obstacle courses) all day, they’re basically just hanging out at a digital mall. But if they download Roblox Studio, they are learning Lua (a real coding language), 3D modeling, and the basics of a market economy.
The Verdict: Roblox is only "educational" if you push them toward the creation side. If they start talking about "monetizing their experience," they’re learning entrepreneurship. If they’re just crying because they lost a "Neon Unicorn," it’s just a game.

There’s a reason this is the GOAT. It’s digital LEGOs on steroids. Kids learn resource management, architecture, and even basic logic circuits (Redstone). It’s the ultimate "stealth learning" tool.
This is a fantasy RPG where you win battles by solving math problems. It’s incredibly effective because the "game" part is actually fun enough that kids forget they’re doing long division. However, watch out for the constant upsells for the "Prodigy Membership."
Created by MIT, this is the gold standard for kids learning to code. It uses blocks to teach logic. If your kid likes Pokémon, tell them they can make their own version here.
For the older crowd (10+), this is a masterclass in history, geography, and diplomacy. You can’t win without understanding how irrigation, trade routes, and government types work. It’s "The West Wing" meets "Age of Empires."
For the littles (ages 2-6), this is one of the few "pure" educational apps. No ads, no "buy more gems" BS, just solid pedagogy.

- Rule of Thumb: Talk about the algorithm. Help them understand why TikTok is showing them what it’s showing them.
You’ll hear kids talk about "brain rot" content. Usually, they’re referring to surreal, fast-paced, low-substance videos like Skibidi Toilet or those weird "satisfying" sand-cutting videos.
Is it going to melt their brain? No. But it is the digital equivalent of eating a bag of Cheetos for dinner. It’s fine once in a while, but it shouldn't be the main course. If your kid is starting to use "Ohio" as an adjective for everything and can't focus on a book for five minutes, it’s time to pivot back to active games.
