Screenwise ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard information when you use our digital wellness calibration platform.

Our service helps parents understand their family's screen time and digital habits in context with their community through anonymous surveys and personalized insights.

By creating an account or using our service, you agree to this Privacy Policy, including our use of cookies and tracking technologies as described below.

Information We Collect

Survey Data

• Child's grade level and general location (city/state)
• Screen time habits and device usage
• Independence milestones and family digital culture
• App, game, and content preferences
• Open-ended responses about goals and concerns

Account Information (Optional)

• Email address (for account creation and survey result storage)
• Authentication information via Google OAuth or email sign-in

Chat Conversations (Family members)

• Messages you send to Screenwise AI, files you attach, and its replies, saved as your chat history
• Summaries of long conversations, and short notes about your family drawn from your chats, so the assistant can keep track of what you have already told it

• Browser type and device information
• Usage patterns and interaction data
• Anonymous session identifiers

How We Use Your Information

Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information. We may share anonymized, aggregated data in the following circumstances:

• Community calibration reports (no personally identifiable information)
• Research partnerships with academic institutions studying digital wellness
• Public reports about general trends in childhood digital habits
• Legal compliance when required by law

Anonymous Usage

You can use Screenwise completely anonymously. Survey responses are stored locally in your browser and used only for generating your personal report. Anonymous data may be included in aggregate community insights but cannot be traced back to you.

Search

When you search Screenwise (the search box on Ratings, the suggestions when you start a list, or a link to a page we do not have), we send the words of that search, and nothing else, to Google's Gemini API, which turns them into a list of numbers that we compare with our catalog to find titles that match what the words mean. Google handles them as our service provider under its API terms; it does not receive your email address, your family's survey answers, your IP address or any ID. The server keeps recent search words and their numbers in its working memory, which is cleared when the server restarts.

Screenwise in ChatGPT and Other AI Assistants

The Screenwise plugin for ChatGPT, and our public API and MCP server, work without a Screenwise account. When your assistant uses Screenwise, it sends us only what each request needs: a title to look up, a question or search words, children's ages, media types, or themes such as "dinosaurs". To show picks as cards, it also sends a short heading and a one-line note it wrote for your family, which can include a child's first name. We never receive your email address or your chat history.

• We keep an anonymous record of each request so we can see what parents ask for and where Screenwise has gaps: the search words, children's ages, media types, titles looked up or suggested, which titles came back or were shown, and the time of the request. This record has no user ID, IP address or account attached, so it cannot be tied to you. We do not store card headings or notes, and we do not use any request to build a profile of you or your family.
• We keep these records for 12 months, then delete them. They are stored with our hosting and database providers, and a daily summary of them (search words, ages, themes and titles, never anything that identifies you) is emailed to the Screenwise team through our email provider. They are not sold or shared with anyone else. Because they carry no identity, we cannot find or delete one person's records; to stop sending requests, disconnect Screenwise in your assistant's settings.
• We count requests per day in total. To apply rate limits, we use your IP address and, in ChatGPT, the anonymous user ID that ChatGPT sends with each request. We keep these only in the server's working memory, never in a database or log, and they are cleared when the server restarts. We keep the ChatGPT ID only in scrambled (hashed) form. We do not store either with your request. Our hosting provider keeps standard request logs for a short time.
• To find titles and guides that match what your search words or themes mean, and not only the exact words (a movie about a rocket to the moon for "space"), we send those search words, and nothing else from the request, to Google's Gemini API, which turns them into a list of numbers that we compare with our catalog. Google handles them as our service provider under its API terms; it never receives children's ages, card notes, your IP address or any ID. To avoid asking twice, the server keeps recent search words and their numbers in its working memory, which is cleared when the server restarts.
• If your assistant suggests a title for us to review or reports a problem, that message is sent to the Screenwise team so a person can read it.
• Links in Screenwise cards include a tag that tells us the visit came from an AI assistant.

Children's Privacy

Screenwise is for parents and guardians. You must be 18 or older to create an account. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Survey responses and other information about children are provided by their parents or guardians.

If we learn that a child under 13 has created an account or given us personal information, we will delete the account and that information. If you believe a child under 13 has given us information, email us at [email protected] and we will remove it.

If Screenwise AI believes it may be talking with someone under 18, it ends the conversation and pauses chat on that account. We then review the account, and if it belongs to a child under 13, we delete it and its information as described above.
