Toca Lab is a solid example of what made Toca Boca beloved—gentle, ad-free, genuinely curious about letting kids explore without pressure. It introduces chemistry in the most non-intimidating way possible, and there's real value in that.
That said, it's over a decade old, and it shows. The graphics are simple even by 2013 standards, and by 2025, it feels downright retro. Kids who've grown up with Roblox and Minecraft may find it visually underwhelming. The core loop—experiment, discover, repeat—is fun for a few hours, but once you've found all the elements, there's not much reason to return.
If you've got a curious preschooler or kindergartener who's into science, this is a lovely, safe introduction. Just know it's more of a 'rainy afternoon' app than a long-term favorite, and it won't compete with flashier modern games for attention.
