The original Skate trilogy (2007-2010) was beloved because it captured the rebellious, creative spirit of skateboarding. This 2025 reboot? It feels like EA put it through a corporate blender and removed everything that made it special.
Reddit users are calling it out for feeling 'like an over-protective mom made it'—overly tutorialized, hand-holdy, and sanitized. The IGDB rating of 68 is middling at best. For context, that's the video game equivalent of a C+. It's not broken, but it's not compelling either.
From a WISE perspective, it's reasonably safe (mild language, injury humor, no predatory monetization), but it's neither enriching nor imaginative enough to justify the time investment. If your teen is into skateboarding, they'd probably get more out of watching actual skate videos on YouTube or, you know, going outside with a board.
Skip this unless your kid is desperate for a skateboarding game and has exhausted better options. Even then, the older Skate 3 might be a better choice.
