Subnautica is basically Minecraft for people who want a plot and a lot more atmosphere. It is one of the most imaginative games of the last decade, swapping out typical video game violence for a focus on survival, crafting, and scientific discovery.
It is a 'safe' game in the sense that it won't sell your kid's data or expose them to 13-year-olds yelling slurs in a headset, but it is not 'safe' for the faint of heart. The ocean gets dark, the sounds are eerie, and the sense of isolation is real. For a kid who loves building and exploration, it's a must-play.
