Cozy Grove is the rare modern game that actively discourages addiction—you can only play for 20-30 minutes a day before you run out of meaningful tasks, which is either genius or infuriating depending on your kid. It's genuinely wholesome, with themes about processing grief and helping others that feel emotionally intelligent without being preachy.
The 'haunted island' setup is more Casper than Conjuring—think melancholic spirits who need a hug, not jump scares. The crafting and decorating systems are robust enough to keep creative kids engaged, and the zero-monetization model is a breath of fresh air.
That said, this is absolutely not for every kid. If your child needs constant stimulation or hates waiting, they'll bounce off this hard. It's deliberate, meditative, and sometimes repetitive—basically the gaming equivalent of doing watercolors while listening to lo-fi beats. For the right kid (patient, creative, enjoys routine), it's a lovely digital wellness win. For the wrong kid, it's a $15 lesson in knowing what you don't like.
