Yes Day! is a keeper. It's not going to change your life or teach your kid to read, but it will make them giggle and might inspire a family tradition that becomes a highlight of your year.
The premise is simple: one day a year, parents say yes to everything. Pizza for breakfast? Yes. Food fight? Yes. Stay up late? Yes. Amy Krouse Rosenthal and Tom Lichtenheld execute it with warmth and humor, and the illustrations are genuinely delightful.
The real genius is that it models balance—kids learn that rules exist for good reasons, but flexibility and fun matter too. Jennifer Garner famously does this with her kids every year, and while she admits to being exhausted afterward, she keeps coming back to it.
Is it a literary masterpiece? No. But it's a charming, wholesome picture book that sparks joy and conversation. If you're looking for something to read before bed that might inspire a new family tradition (and a very long day), this is it.
