F.C. Yee doesn't do 'kiddie' versions of the Avatar world. This is a smart, sometimes grim, and totally absorbing look at an Avatar who had to be a spy and a diplomat before she could be a hero.
It’s a far cry from the slapstick humor of early 'The Last Airbender.' If your kid is aging out of cartoons but still loves the lore, this is the perfect bridge. It’s essentially a political thriller in a monk’s robe.
Highly recommended for any kid (or adult) who wants a fantasy story that actually has something to say about power and responsibility.
