This is a solid, gentle poetry collection that does what it sets out to do: teach gratitude and poetic craft in an accessible, beautifully illustrated package. Nikki Grimes is a talented poet, and the variety of forms keeps things interesting for young readers who might otherwise bounce off poetry.
That said, it's not going to blow anyone's mind. The gratitude theme is wholesome and developmentally positive, but it can feel a bit like eating your vegetables—good for you, maybe a little earnest. The illustrations elevate it significantly, and it's a great pick for educators or parents who want to introduce poetry forms without intimidation.
It's a nice book. Not a must-have, but a good one to have around if you're building a poetry shelf or want something warm and affirming for storytime.
