Teen Line is one of those resources every parent of a teen should know exists, even if your kid never uses it. It's the digital-age version of what we all wished we had growing up: a way to talk through hard stuff with someone who actually gets it, without the weight of adult judgment or the permanence of a therapy record.
The peer-to-peer model is brilliant—trained teen volunteers provide empathy and resource referrals, not clinical advice. It's confidential, ad-free, and run by a reputable nonprofit that's been doing this for three decades. The limited hours (6-10pm PST) are a constraint, but also realistic for volunteer staffing.
This isn't flashy or gamified. It's just a solid, safe resource that teaches teens it's okay to ask for help. If your teen is struggling—or you just want them to know options exist—this is worth mentioning. And if they're the kind of kid who wants to give back, Teen Line trains volunteer listeners too.
