It is free to download, with the Farm Friends and Pets word packs included. The other eight packs are one-time purchases, and a Super Pack unlocks all of them at once (US prices: $0.99 per pack, $5.99 for the Super Pack). There is no subscription and there are no ads.

What age is SpellBunny for?

About 4 to 6. The App Store listing says 3 to 5 and the developer's site says 4 to 6. Kids get the most from it once they can hear the separate sounds in a short word. Younger kids can play with a parent helping.

Does my child need to read to play SpellBunny?

No. Each word is spoken aloud and shown as a picture, and your child builds it from letter tiles. Knowing some letter sounds helps.

Is SpellBunny safe for kids?

Yes. It has no ads, no chat, no account and no web browser, and Apple lists it as collecting no data. Purchases are behind a parent gate, and it works offline.

Is SpellBunny on Android?

No. It is available for iPhone, iPad and Apple silicon Macs, and needs iOS 17 or later.

Screenwise Verdict

SpellBunny does one thing and keeps it simple. The app says a word, shows a picture, and your child spells it by dragging big letter tiles into place. It needs no reading to play.

It fits best at 4 to 6, when kids are starting to hear the separate sounds in words like "cat" and "pup". The design is clean: no ads, no account, no data collected, and it works offline.

Two word packs are free, so you can try it before paying. It is brand new, with no App Store ratings yet, and it is iPhone, iPad and Mac only.

Age Fit

Best from about 4 to 6. That is the age when most kids start hearing the separate sounds in short words, which is the skill the game practices. A 3-year-old can play with a parent sounding out each letter, and a 7-year-old who reads well will find the words too easy.

WISE Breakdown

Wholesome

A calm game of everyday words, friendly pictures and small celebrations. Nothing in it competes for attention or pushes a child to keep playing.

Imaginative

One activity, repeated: hear a word, drag the letters. It does that cleanly, but it leaves little room for a child to make or explore anything of their own.

Safe

No ads, no account, no chat, no web browser and no data collected, per Apple's listing. It works offline, and purchases sit behind a parent gate.

Enriching

Practices hearing the separate sounds in short words and matching them to letters, a real early-literacy step. The scope is narrow: short words across ten everyday themes.

Parent Info

Why It Might Be Great

Audio and a picture carry every word, so a child who cannot read yet can still play.
Short words with a few extra letters mixed in: enough of a puzzle to make a child listen for each sound.
No ads, no subscription, no account, no data collection, and it works offline.
Purchases sit behind a parent gate, and two packs are free, so there is no pressure to buy.
Everyday words (pig, dog, cake, sock, rain) that match what kids see and say.

⚠

What to Watch For

It is a single activity repeated. Expect a few weeks of interest, not months.
Brand new, with no App Store ratings yet.
Apple devices only. There is no Android version.
Most 3-year-olds will need a parent beside them. The developer's own site says 4 to 6.

Conversation Starters

"What sound does "cat" start with? What other words start that way?"
"Can you find something in our house that starts with the same letter?"
"Which word was the trickiest? Let's spell it with fridge magnets."

Deep Dive

A spelling game a pre-reader can play alone

SpellBunny works without any reading. The app says a word out loud and shows a picture of it: a cat, a pup, a cow. Your child drags letter tiles into the empty slots to spell it, with a few extra letters mixed in so each one is a real choice. A speaker button repeats the word, and a light-bulb button gives a hint.

That makes it practice in hearing the separate sounds in a word and matching each to a letter. It is the step between knowing the alphabet and reading short words.

Short words, everyday topics

The ten packs cover the words young kids use every day: farm animals, pets, wild animals, body parts, food, clothes, toys, the home, the weather and school. The examples on the store run three or four letters long: pig, hen, dog, cake, sock, rain.

Farm Friends and Pets come free, which is enough to see whether your child takes to it. The other eight packs cost $0.99 each in the US, or $5.99 for all of them, behind a parent gate.

Built to be calm

There are no ads, no subscription, no account, no chat and no web browser, and the game runs offline once installed. Apple lists it as collecting no data, and it sits in Apple's Kids category.

If your child likes letter games with more variety, Endless Alphabet and Duolingo ABC cover more ground. SpellBunny is the simpler, quieter choice for one specific skill.

New, small and Apple-only

SpellBunny came out in August 2026 from WYCD Apps, a small studio in Melbourne, and has no App Store ratings yet. It runs on iPhone, iPad and Apple silicon Macs, with no Android version. It pairs well with picture books about farms, pets and animals, where your child meets the same words again.
