Here's the thing: Sonny With a Chance is perfectly safe and was perfectly fine...in 2009. But we're living in 2025, and this show feels like a time capsule from a very specific era of Disney Channel—complete with laugh tracks, predictable plots, and humor that hasn't aged particularly well.

Demi Lovato is genuinely talented and likable in the lead role, and the show has positive messages about friendship and perseverance. It's squeaky clean, which parents will appreciate. But let's be real: there are so many better options for kids today. The comedy feels forced, the characters are stereotypes, and the whole thing has that canned sitcom energy that modern kids—raised on more sophisticated animation and streaming content—might find hard to sit through.

If your kid stumbles onto it on Disney+ and enjoys it? Fine, it won't hurt them. But I wouldn't go out of your way to recommend it when there are genuinely great shows competing for screen time. It's the TV equivalent of finding an old iPod Nano in a drawer—kind of fun to remember, but you're not actually going to use it.
