This is a perfectly fine family movie that checks all the boxes—true story, cute dog, history lesson, positive values—but it's not going to blow anyone away. The animation is serviceable but not Pixar-level, and the storytelling is pretty conventional.
That said, if you've got an animal-loving kid or you're looking for something educational that isn't a total snooze, this delivers. The 89% critic score and 92% audience score aren't flukes—it's competent and heartwarming. Just don't expect kids to be quoting it or rewatching it endlessly.
The WWI setting is handled well for families, though younger kids might need some context about what's happening and why. It's more 'inspiring historical tale' than 'edge-of-your-seat adventure,' so set expectations accordingly.
