Let's be crystal clear: this is not for kids. Not for teens. Not for family car rides. Not playing on the kitchen speaker while you make dinner.
Serial (the true crime podcast about murderers, not the groundbreaking 2014 Sarah Koenig podcast about Adnan Syed—seems like there's confusion in the synopsis) is adults-only content that explores the darkest corners of human behavior. If you're into true crime and have a strong stomach for discussions of violence and murder, it might scratch that morbid curiosity itch.
But from a Screenwise perspective? This scores low because it's the opposite of what we're usually helping parents find for their families. It's dark, it's disturbing, and it has zero place in a household with kids who might overhear. Even for adults, ask yourself: is consuming detailed accounts of serial killers actually enriching your life, or just feeding a cultural obsession with violence?
If you listen, use headphones, and maybe balance it out with something that doesn't make you lose faith in humanity.
