The Return of the King(s) of Parody
After a decade of the Scary Movie franchise being handled by David Zucker and drifting into PG-13 territory, the return of Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen Ivory Wayans is a legitimate cultural event for comedy fans. The original 2000 film was a lightning rod for its time, and Scary Movie 6 attempts to bottle that same lightning by aiming its sights at the 'elevated horror' boom of the 2020s.
Expect heavy parodies of Hereditary, Midsommar, and The Witch. The Wayans have always been best when they're punching up at pretentious tropes, and the current landscape of horror is ripe for the picking. However, parents should be aware that the 'Wayans style' involves a lot of physical comedy that leans heavily into sexual situations and drug use.
"The Wayans brothers returning to Scary Movie is like the Avengers assembling, if the Avengers only cared about fart jokes and making fun of A24 movies."
If your teen is begging to see this because they've seen clips of the original on TikTok, just know that the 2026 version doesn't tone anything down for modern sensibilities. It’s a relic of a louder, cruder era of filmmaking, and while it won't win any Oscars, it’ll likely be the most quoted movie in the high school cafeteria for the next six months.
