Puffin Rock is that rare preschool show that won't make parents want to throw the remote through the TV. It's gentle, genuinely educational about nature, and beautifully animated with Irish coastal landscapes that are actually pleasant to look at.
That said, 'gentle' is doing a LOT of work here. This show moves at the pace of actual puffins waddling around rocks. If your kid is used to the frenetic energy of most modern kids' content, they might stare at this like it's a screensaver. But for toddlers and young preschoolers—especially those who get overstimulated easily—it's basically perfect.
The nature education is legitimate without being preachy, the sibling relationship is sweet without being saccharine, and Chris O'Dowd's narration keeps it from being completely soporific for adults. It's dated in the sense that it's from 2015 and has that 'prestige preschool content' feel, but it's not unwatchable by any means.
Bottom line: If you want your 3-year-old to learn about tide pools instead of unboxing videos, this is your show. Just don't expect it to hold attention past kindergarten.
