Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville is a bright, goofy hero shooter that nails the family-friendly aesthetic—no blood, no swearing, just plants with lasers and zombies with gas blasters. The split-screen co-op is a genuine win for families who want to play together, and the variety of classes keeps things interesting for a while.
But here's the deal: the online multiplayer is a wild west of unmoderated chat, and the loot-box cosmetics system is designed to nudge kids toward spending real money. The PvE campaigns are repetitive enough that most kids will migrate to PvP, where the action gets so chaotic it's hard to tell what's happening. If you're willing to lock down chat, password-protect purchases, and maybe jump in for some split-screen sessions, this can be a solid pick for a 10-year-old who's ready for their first shooter. Just don't expect it to teach them much beyond 'shoot the other team and collect stuff.'
