A 2016 Chinese Xianxia series that plays out like a winged soap opera, Novoland: The Castle in the Sky trades in palace intrigue, false-flag conspiracies, and inter-species romance. When a floating sky castle explodes during its inaugural launch, a human girl gets framed, forcing a rebellious winged prince to step in and uncover a warmongering plot within his own ranks.
While the winged-god premise offers fun worldbuilding, the production values show their age. The mid-2010s CGI visuals feel budget-constrained, and the pacing often slows down under the weight of long-winded romantic angst. Unless your teen is already invested in C-drama tropes or Chinese language media, it is a tough sell for casual viewing.
