This is a perfectly serviceable picture book that does exactly what it sets out to do: teach preschoolers about sharing through a simple frog story. Lionni's art is lovely, the message is clear without being obnoxious, and it's short enough that you won't dread the fifth read-through.
That said, it's not going to blow anyone's mind in 2025. It's a 1996 book with 1996 sensibilities—straightforward moral, simple plot, no clever wordplay or jokes for the adult reading it. If you're looking for something with more layers or humor, this isn't it. But if you've got a toddler who screams 'MINE!' seventeen times a day, this book might actually help. It's the literary equivalent of a solid, reliable minivan: not exciting, but gets the job done.
