This is what premium mobile/indie gaming should be: buy once, play forever, no psychological manipulation. Grindstone is basically a tactical puzzle game dressed up as a Viking adventure, and it's genuinely well-crafted.
The 'violence' is so abstracted (matching colorful blobs) that it's barely worth mentioning, but the strategic depth is real. Kids who love optimization, pattern recognition, and that 'just one more level' feeling will get hooked—in the good way, not the algorithmic dopamine-drip way.
It's challenging enough that younger elementary kids will struggle, but that's not necessarily bad if they're into puzzles. The lack of any predatory monetization or social features makes this a parent-friendly choice. Not life-changing or particularly enriching beyond cognitive exercise, but solid, honest entertainment that respects your kid's attention and your wallet.
