It doesn't pander to kids. It acknowledges that the world can be a scary, unfair place where parents aren't always 'good' and kids don't always get cured. But it also shows that having one person who truly sees you can make you feel invincible.

If your kid is ready for a 'heavy' book that actually respects their intelligence, this is it. Just have the tissues ready for the final chapters.
