The Fitbit Ace (specifically the LTE version) is a fantastic bridge device. It solves the 'I need to reach my kid' problem without opening the Pandora's Box of social media and unmoderated YouTube.
It's pricey once you factor in the subscription, but the build quality and the focus on movement over mindless scrolling make it a win for families who want to encourage independence. If you're just looking for a basic step counter, the older Ace models are fine, but the LTE is what actually changes the parent-child dynamic for the better.
