This is a winner for the middle-grade shelf. Greg van Eekhout manages to write a story about AI and robotics that feels warm and fleshy rather than cold and technical.
It’s a road trip story at its heart, and the cast of misfit robots provides enough humor to keep the 'meaningful' parts from feeling like a chore. If your kid is into tech, sci-fi, or just likes stories about finding where you belong, this is an easy 'yes.' It’s smart, short enough to not be intimidating, and way more thoughtful than your average 'boy and his robot' story.
