Caraval is a solid win for the fantasy-loving teen. It’s not 'brain rot'—the writing is actually quite evocative—but it’s definitely designed for entertainment first.
It avoids the 'boring' trap by throwing constant twists at the reader. If your kid liked 'The Night Circus' or 'The Hunger Games' but wants something more focused on magic and mystery than survival, this is a top-tier recommendation. Just be ready for them to want to buy a lot of velvet capes afterward.
