Let's be clear: this is the darkest, most violent Batman game ever made, and Rocksteady earned that M rating honestly. The torture scenes are graphic, the language is strong, and the psychological horror is genuinely unsettling.
That said, for mature teens (15+) and adults who can handle it, this is a masterpiece. The open-world Gotham is breathtaking, the Batmobile is a blast, and the story is genuinely compelling. The puzzle-solving and detective work are top-notch, and the combat mechanics are refined to perfection.
Common Sense Media's 13+ recommendation feels optimistic—most 13-year-olds aren't ready for the graphic content here. If your teen is mature, has experience with darker media, and you're willing to have conversations about what they're seeing, then 15+ is reasonable. Otherwise, point them toward Arkham Asylum or Arkham City (both T-rated) for 90% of the fun with way less graphic content.
Bottom line: It's a phenomenal game, but know what you're getting into. This isn't The Dark Knight movie—it's several steps darker.
