Let's be real: this movie is a disaster. With an 8% Rotten Tomatoes critic score and a 1.4/5 on Letterboxd, Artemis Fowl is one of those rare films that unites critics and audiences in collective disappointment.
The books are beloved for good reason—clever, imaginative, with a morally complex kid protagonist. This adaptation strips away everything that made the source material interesting and delivers a confusing, rushed mess that neither honors the books nor works as a standalone film.
Is it safe? Sure. Will your kid be traumatized? No. Will they be bored out of their mind? Almost certainly. Even kids who love fantasy adventures report finding it hard to follow and unengaging.
If your child is desperate to see it because they loved the books, fine—it's on Disney+ so at least you're not paying extra. But manage expectations: this is a 'watch once and forget' situation. There are dozens of better fantasy films that will actually entertain and enrich your kids. Skip this and read the books instead.
