This is a perfectly fine early-reader book that does exactly what it sets out to do: give kindergarteners and first-graders a taste of Anne Shirley without overwhelming them. The problem is that Anne of Green Gables is such a rich, emotional, funny story, and this version feels like reading the CliffsNotes. It's safe, wholesome, and will help your kid practice reading—but it's not going to spark a lifelong love of Anne the way the original might.

The nostalgic illustrations and slow pacing also make it feel dated, even though it was published in 2018. Modern kids raised on Dog Man and Elephant & Piggie might find this a little... sleepy. If you're looking for a gentle, literary introduction to a classic character and your kid is right in that early-reader sweet spot, go for it. But if you want something that'll actually hold their attention and make them beg for the next book, there are livelier options out there.
