Animation Desk is a real animation tool, not edutainment dressed up as creativity. It teaches frame-by-frame animation the way professionals do it—onion skinning, layers, export options—and educational reviewers love it for good reason.
The NFT feature is bonkers and feels like a 2021 cash-grab add-on that aged poorly, but most kids will never touch it. The paywalls exist but seem reasonable based on user feedback. The bigger question is whether your kid actually wants to learn animation or just wants to doodle.
If they're serious about making their own cartoons, this is a solid choice. If they just want to mess around, there are simpler tools. But for the right kid, this builds real skills and could spark a genuine interest in animation as an art form.
