Animalia has its heart in the right place—cooperative gameplay, conservation themes, accessible mechanics. But good intentions don't make a good game.
The Meeple Mountain review is blunt: 'It was never challenging. It was never interesting.' That's damning for a hobby game. At a BGG rating of 6.3 with only 84 ratings, the community has spoken with relative indifference.
If you're looking for a cooperative trick-taking game, The Crew is vastly superior and more engaging. If you want animal-themed games that actually teach something, there are better options. Animalia works as a very gentle introduction to cooperative card games for younger kids, but it's forgettable. Not broken, not harmful—just bland.
