Alma's Way is exactly what you'd expect from a 2021 PBS Kids show: thoughtful, culturally authentic, curriculum-driven, and perfectly fine. It won't revolutionize your preschooler's screen time, but it also won't rot their brain.
The real value here is the representation—seeing a confident Puerto Rican girl navigating her Bronx neighborhood with family and friends is genuinely meaningful for kids who rarely see themselves centered in media, and good exposure for everyone else. The social-emotional learning is solid and age-appropriate, teaching perspective-taking without being preachy.
That said, it's not Bluey. It follows a more traditional educational format that prioritizes learning objectives over creative storytelling risks. If your kid is in the 4-6 sweet spot and you want something that's actively teaching emotional intelligence while you make dinner, this is a great pick. Just don't expect to get sucked into binge-watching it yourself.
