Akira is the 'Citizen Kane' of animation. It’s the reason anime exploded in the West, and even decades later, it looks better than almost anything coming out today. It is a massive, loud, gorgeous, and deeply violent epic that demands to be seen on the biggest screen possible.
That said, it isn't 'fun' in the Disney sense. It's a heavy, often disturbing watch that leans into body horror and political nihilism. If your kid is an aspiring artist or a sci-fi nerd, this is essential curriculum, but make sure they're old enough to handle a character's intestines falling out (literally).
