Wyrmspan is a fantastic pivot for kids who are aging out of simple roll-and-move games but aren't quite ready for the hyper-competitive world of war games.

It’s cozy, intellectual, and incredibly satisfying to look at. It trades the 'educational' bird facts of its predecessor (Wingspan) for pure fantasy world-building, which usually lands better with the middle-school crowd anyway.

If you want a game that keeps the family at the table for an hour without anyone yelling or staring at a phone, this is a top-tier pick. Just be prepared to help with the setup and the initial rules explanation—it’s a lot to take in at first.

While the box says 14+, that's mostly for safety testing standards. A bright 10 or 11-year-old who has played games like Catan or Splendor will handle this just fine, though they might need a 'practice round' with open hands.
