This is one of those movies that sounds better on paper than it plays on screen. A brilliant architect becomes a recluse, disappears, and her teen daughter has to find her—cool premise! But the execution is reportedly uneven, the tone is melancholic and quirky in a way that doesn't always land, and the 50% critics score tells you everything you need to know about watchability.
That said, if you've got a 13-15 year old who's into character-driven dramas and can handle themes of mental health and family dysfunction, there's something here. The mother-daughter relationship has depth, and the film doesn't shy away from the messiness of brilliant, struggling people. Just don't expect a fun family movie night—this is more 'contemplative rainy Sunday' territory.
The bigger issue? It's already feeling a bit dated just six years later, and with a 6.5 IMDb rating, it's not exactly a must-watch. There are better family dramas out there that tackle similar themes with more heart and better pacing. This one's fine if you stumble across it on Hulu, but it's not worth seeking out unless the premise really speaks to you.
