Screenwise Verdict

Think of We're Here as Queer Eye with significantly higher stakes and much more heart. It’s not just about a makeover; it’s about a 'takeover' of small towns that often feel like they don't have room for everyone. It’s one of the most emotionally intelligent shows on television.

While the TV-MA rating is mostly there for language and the frankness of the stories told, the show is never cynical. It’s a loud, proud, and deeply moving look at what happens when you stop shouting and start listening—even if you're doing it while wearing a ten-pound wig.

Age Fit

This is perfect for teens (14+) who are starting to navigate their own identities and the complexities of the world. It’s too heavy and linguistically 'adult' for the elementary crowd, but for older kids, it’s a vital lesson in humanity.

WISE Breakdown

Wholesome

Deeply focused on empathy, community healing, and human connection. While it deals with heavy real-world rejection, the core is about unconditional support.

Imaginative

Drag is the ultimate creative outlet. The show highlights the process of building a persona, costume design, and performance as a way to find one's voice.

Safe

Safe from a 'surprises' standpoint, but parents should expect mature language and intense discussions about trauma, hate speech, and suicide.

Enriching

It's an masterclass in social-emotional learning. It teaches kids how to listen to people with vastly different backgrounds and how to stand up for others in small-town environments.

Parent Info

Why It Might Be Great

Radical empathy in action as the hosts work with people who have been marginalized or misunderstood in their own communities.
Creative transformation that goes way beyond makeup; it's about helping people find the confidence to be seen as they truly are.
Real-world civics lesson on how to navigate difficult conversations with neighbors, family members, and local leaders who might disagree with you.
Top-tier production value that makes every episode feel like a high-stakes emotional journey with a spectacular finale.

⚠

What to Watch For

Raw discussions of trauma including stories of being disowned, hate crimes, and mental health struggles that might be too heavy for younger kids.
Mature language is common—the hosts and participants speak like real adults in high-stress situations.
Religious friction is a major recurring theme, often showing the painful side of how some communities use faith to exclude others.

Conversation Starters

"Why do you think it's so hard for some of the townspeople to accept the drag show at first?"
"Which of the 'drag daughters' did you relate to most, and why?"
"How does putting on a costume or a persona actually help someone show their 'true' self?"
"What would you do if you saw someone in our town being treated the way some people in the show are?"
