Look, 1988 was a wild year for body-swap comedies—Big, Like Father Like Son, and this forgotten entry all competed for audience attention. Vice Versa lost that battle decisively.
The 42% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes is brutal and tells the real story: even people who chose to watch this weren't impressed. The 'mysterious oriental skull' premise is painfully dated and culturally tone-deaf, and there's no evidence the movie does anything interesting with its body-swap concept.
If you want a parent-child body-swap story, literally just watch Freaky Friday (either version). If you want quality '80s family comedy, watch Big. Vice Versa is a curiosity at best, a slog at worst, and there's zero reason to subject modern kids to it when vastly better options exist.
The WISE score reflects both its mediocre individual components AND the harsh reality that this movie is borderline unwatchable for contemporary audiences.
