Under the Bridge is quality television that's also absolutely gutting. It's the true story of Reena Virk, a 14-year-old girl murdered by seven teenage girls and a boy in 1997, and it doesn't pull punches about the horror of what happened.
The good news: this isn't exploitative true crime trash. Reviews consistently praise how respectfully it handles the tragedy, with stellar performances and thoughtful examination of bullying, racism, and justice. For adults who can stomach difficult content, it's apparently worth watching.
The reality check: this is not family viewing. Not even close. We're talking severe profanity, violence, teen drug use, and the emotional devastation of a child's murder. Even if your teen is 'mature for their age,' ask yourself if they really need this particular trauma in their head right now.
The WISE score is low because this simply isn't appropriate for the vast majority of families with kids at home. It's well-made adult content about the darkest aspects of human behavior. If you're an adult interested in thoughtful true crime that grapples with serious social issues, go ahead. But keep the kids far, far away.
