This is Sanderson at his most relaxed and creative. He wrote it as a gift for his wife, and that warmth translates to the page.
It avoids the tired 'chosen one' tropes and focuses on a protagonist who wins because she's thoughtful and meticulous. It's fun, it's fast-paced, and it's genuinely clever. If your kid is moving past Wings of Fire or Percy Jackson and wants something a bit more 'sophisticated' but still fun, this is the one.
