Screenwise Verdict

Amazon's live-action Tomb Raider series hasn't aired yet, but the project brings major potential with Phoebe Waller-Bridge leading the writing team. The show will adapt the iconic video game franchise, tracking archaeologist Lara Croft across dangerous ruins and ancient conspiracies.

Because the show remains in development, we haven't screened episodes yet. However, based on the Crystal Dynamics reboot games and previous adaptations, parents should anticipate a high-octane TV-14 action show with frequent combat, gunplay, and dark supernatural elements.

If your teen loved the modern Tomb Raider games or entry-level action franchises like Uncharted, this will be one to keep on your radar once official trailers and age ratings drop.

Age Fit

Targeted primarily at older teens (14+) and adults. Expect a TV-14 rating packed with intense action, gun violence, and survival peril.

WISE Breakdown

Wholesome

Expected to feature intense action sequences, gunplay, physical combat, and dark ancient mythologies standard to the franchise.

Imaginative

Rooted in historical mysteries, archaeological puzzle-solving, and international exploration.

Safe

Will likely carry a TV-14 rating with stylized combat, peril, and creature violence based on the source video games.

Enriching

Offers light historical and mythological curiosity, wrapped inside a pop action-adventure framework.

Conversation Starters

"What makes a character like Lara Croft so persistent across games, movies, and TV for thirty years?"
"If you could travel anywhere in the world to investigate an ancient ruin, where would you head first?"
"How do movie and TV adaptations change the story when you can't control the character with a controller?"

Deep Dive

What We Know About Amazon's Tomb Raider

Video game adaptations have entered a new era, moving away from cheap cash-ins toward prestige television. Amazon is putting serious weight behind Tomb Raider, tapping Phoebe Waller-Bridge to write and executive produce the live-action series.

What Parents Should Expect

The narrative will draw from the broader Tomb Raider canon, following Lara Croft as she navigates high-stakes archaeological sites, mercenaries, and supernatural artifacts. While Waller-Bridge is famous for razor-sharp adult comedy, her work on Killing Eve proved she knows how to handle tense, action-driven storytelling with complex female leads.

For families, the primary concern won't be boring story lines; it will be intensity. The modern video games lean heavily into survival realism, environmental peril, and violent confrontations. You can expect the TV series to match that tone with a solid TV-14 baseline.

How to Gauge Fit When It Releases

Once the series premieres, check back for specific content breakdown notes. If your 13- or 14-year-old handles PG-13 action blockbusters like Indiana Jones or Uncharted without issue, they will likely be the target audience for this adaptation.
