Time Bandits has all the ingredients for a solid family adventure—history, humor, time travel—but that 25-point gap between critic and audience scores tells the real story. Critics appreciated the ambition and production design; actual families found it uneven and sometimes boring.
The good news: if your kid is a genuine history nerd, this could be a gateway to deeper curiosity about different eras. The bad news: it's not the rollicking adventure the trailer promises. Expect some slow patches and jokes that land with a thud.
It's perfectly safe and has wholesome intentions, but it's also a reboot of a 1981 cult classic that may have been better left in the past. Not unwatchable, but not unmissable either. If your family loved Timmy Failure or Percy Jackson, give it a shot. If they need constant action, skip it.
