Screenwise Verdict

Thunderbirds Are Go! is solid family action-adventure fare with genuinely positive themes about using privilege and skills to help others. The Tracy family runs International Rescue like a high-tech emergency service, and each episode features creative problem-solving with cool vehicles.

The show earns points for pro-social messaging, teamwork, and keeping action focused on rescue rather than combat. It's got that Saturday morning cartoon vibe but with decent production values and 83% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The main limitation? It's a 2015 remake of 1960s material, and it shows. The animation is fine but not Pixar-level, and some concepts feel a bit dated. Kids who love vehicles, rescue scenarios, and straightforward hero stories will dig it. Kids looking for complex characters or cutting-edge animation might find it just okay.

It's available on multiple platforms including free options (Tubi), which is nice. Overall, it's a safe, wholesome choice that won't make you cringe when your kid asks to watch it, even if it's not going to blow anyone's mind in 2025.

Age Fit

Best for elementary-aged kids (roughly 7-12) who enjoy action-adventure and vehicles. The rescue mission format and positive themes work well for this age group, though teens will likely find it too juvenile.

WISE Breakdown

Wholesome

82

Models heroism, teamwork, and using resources to help others in need. The Tracy family works together cooperatively on rescue missions with positive themes of service and responsibility. Pacing is action-oriented but not chaotic, with clear mission structures. Avoids cynicism and maintains an optimistic tone about helping people.

Imaginative

76

Features creative rescue scenarios with customized vehicles and equipment for sea, air, land, and space emergencies. The premise of International Rescue invites problem-solving thinking and showcases innovative technology. However, as a remake of 1960s material, some concepts may feel familiar rather than groundbreaking to modern audiences.

Safe

88

Action-adventure content with rescue missions that may include peril and danger, but designed for kids with Common Sense Media rating of 8+. No gore, sexual content, or inappropriate material. Rotten Tomatoes 83% critic score and 6.9 IMDb rating suggest quality family content. Kids mode available on platforms. Action is mission-focused rescue work rather than violence.

Enriching

70

Demonstrates problem-solving, engineering concepts, and the value of using wealth and skills for humanitarian purposes. Shows diverse roles (pilots, engineers, intelligence agents) and teamwork. However, it's primarily entertainment-focused action-adventure rather than deeply educational. The 'helping others' theme provides ethical modeling but limited deeper cognitive growth opportunities.

What to Watch For

Rescue missions involve peril and danger—people trapped, vehicles in trouble, that sort of thing—appropriate for 8+ but maybe intense for sensitive younger kids
It's a 2015 CGI remake of a 1960s puppet show, so some of the charm is nostalgia-driven and may not land with kids unfamiliar with the original
Action-adventure format means it's more 'exciting missions' than deep character development or educational content
