This isn't a 'fun' read, and it's definitely not for kids who are currently in a dark place. It’s the book that basically forced schools to start talking about mental health more openly.
While the Netflix show got a lot of flak for being graphic, the book is a bit more restrained but still packs a massive emotional punch. It's gripping, but it's also a bit of a 'misery-fest.'
If your teen is ready for it, it’s a landmark piece of YA fiction that will stay with them, but don't just hand it over and walk away—you're going to need to talk about this one.
