If you're looking for a 'beach read' that's actually a bit depressing, this is it. It’s well-written and the mystery lands, but it’s essentially a story about a woman hitting rock bottom while watching her neighbors.
It’s a solid page-turner for parents who need an escape, but don't hand this to your middle schooler unless you want to explain why the main character is on her third bottle of wine by chapter four.
This is strictly adult fiction. Older teens (16+) who are already into 'Gone Girl' style thrillers might enjoy the mystery, but it's too bleak and substance-heavy for anyone younger.
The story centers on isolation, severe trauma, and a protagonist who mixes heavy prescription meds with bottles of Merlot. It’s a dark psychological spiral, not exactly an 'uplifting' read.
