Look, I'll be straight with you: this is not a good movie. A 32% on Rotten Tomatoes, 5.7 on IMDb, and a dismal 2.4/5 on Letterboxd tells you everything you need to know. Even the audience—horror fans who are usually generous—only gave it 50%.
The premise sounds cool: mysterious creatures, Irish forest, trapped strangers. But execution matters, and this appears to be a freshman effort (likely Ishana Shyamalan's directorial debut) that doesn't stick the landing. Horror can be genuinely enriching when it explores deeper themes about humanity, fear, and survival. This... doesn't seem to do that.
If your teen is a die-hard horror completist who needs to see everything, fine. But there are so many better horror options—A Quiet Place, Get Out, even older classics—that deliver scares AND substance. This one's a skip unless you've literally exhausted every other option on HBO Max.
