F. Javier Gutiérrez directs this Spanish neo-western thriller like a slow-burning fever dream. Set in the dust and sweat of 1970s Andalusia, the story kicks off when estate keeper Eladio agrees to look the other way for cash during a private hunt. The bribe leads straight to a catastrophic shooting accident involving his son, and the rest of the film watches Eladio pick at his own emotional scabs until the wound turns gangrenous.
It is well-crafted, bleak as midnight, and genuinely disturbing. Critics loved the visual style and grim tone, but do not mistake this for standard thriller fare. The heavy focus on parental grief, brutal violence, and decaying sanity puts it firmly in adult-only territory.
