Let's be real: this movie is borderline unwatchable for modern kids. The animation looks like a Saturday morning cartoon stretched to feature length, the pacing is relentless 80s chaos, and the voice acting is... of its time.
The infamous Optimus Prime death scene genuinely traumatized kids in 1986 because they showed up expecting a fun toy commercial and got Robot Hamlet instead. It's heavy, it's dark, and Hasbro literally did it to clear old toy inventory and sell new characters.
The 88% Rotten Tomatoes audience score is pure nostalgia from Gen X parents. Your kid will probably ask to turn it off after 20 minutes unless they're deeply invested in Transformers lore. If you want to share your childhood, maybe just show them the death scene on YouTube and call it a cultural history lesson.
There are much better ways to introduce kids to themes of sacrifice and leadership that don't involve sitting through 84 minutes of dated animation.
