If you’re looking for a book that will keep you up until 2 AM, this is it. Carissa Broadbent has written a 'Romantasy' that actually respects the 'fantasy' part of the genre, with a world that feels lived-in and dangerous.
It’s gritty, it’s fast-paced, and it doesn't pull punches. Just know that this is firmly for the grown-ups. It’s got the kind of 'spice' and blood-spatter that makes it a great weekend read for you, but a 'keep on the high shelf' book if you have curious kids around.
This is for adults and older teens (18+). It’s marketed as 'New Adult' because of the explicit romance and the sheer amount of gore. Definitely not one for the middle school library.
It's a brutal 'kill or be killed' vampire tournament. While the bond between the lead and her adoptive vampire father is complex, the world is fundamentally cynical and violent.
Carissa Broadbent builds a vivid, terrifying world. The magic of the Hiaj and Rishis vampires feels distinct, and the Kejari tournament is a creative take on the survival genre.
This is firmly New Adult/Adult content. It features graphic violence (decapitations, heart-ripping) and explicit sexual scenes ('spice') that make it inappropriate for younger readers.
Excellent exploration of trauma, the cost of survival, and the nuance of abusive vs. protective relationships. It’s a high-quality character study wrapped in a fantasy skin.
