It will also focus on Jacob and Maisie as they settle into their unconventional family life. Expect strong seafaring adventure, polished animation, and PG-level creature action.

What to Watch For

Expect animated ocean peril and monster battles on par with the original film's PG rating.
Heavy themes around unlearning historical lies and shifting societal traditions require some maturity to digest.

Conversation Starters

"If you realized a creature everyone feared was harmless, how would you convince people to stop fighting it?"
"What do you think is the hardest part for Jacob and Maisie as they figure out their new family life?"
"Which sea creature from the ocean would you want to team up with on a sea voyage?"

Deep Dive

What to expect from the sequel

The original The Sea Beast stood out because it took a standard monster-hunting setup and turned it into an argument against historical propaganda and environmental destruction.

Director Chris Williams has indicated that The Sea Beast 2 won't simply reset the conflict for another round of action. Instead, the story looks at what comes after a big moral victory: the complicated effort to share ocean resources with wild creatures, paired with Jacob and Maisie navigating life off the hunting ship. Assuming it holds the narrative ambition and visual polish of the original, this will be a high-priority family watch when it lands on Netflix.
