The Romance of Tiger and Rose was a massive sleeper hit in 2020, launching leads Zhao Lusi and Ding Yuxi into stardom for a reason. Chen Xiaoqian is a screenwriter who naps after a marathon rewrite and wakes up inside her own script as the Third Princess—a ruthless, spoiled minor villain scheduled to be poisoned on her wedding night by the male lead, Prince Han Shuo, in episode three. Her whole objective is staying alive long enough to push Han Shuo toward the actual heroine, except Han Shuo falls for her frantic, weird attempts to spare his life instead.
For teens and parents, this is about as easy and fun as international dramas get. Mainland Chinese broadcast rules mean the romance stays firmly in PG-13 territory—lots of longing looks, comedic misunderstandings, and a few kisses, with zero nudity or graphic violence. It moves fast, pokes fun at its own ridiculousness, and clocks in at a very manageable 24 episodes.
