Look, this isn't a 'quick read.' It’s a mountain. But it’s the mountain every other fantasy book is trying to climb. If your kid is used to fast-paced TikTok-style storytelling, they might hit a wall with the 40-page descriptions of Gondor’s architecture.

But for a kid who loves to get lost in a world, this is the gold standard. It’s wholesome, deeply ethical, and arguably the most imaginative thing ever put to paper. Just be prepared to help them through the appendices if they get obsessed with the family trees.
