This is the rare family movie that actually works for the whole family—little kids laugh at the pug, tweens relate to Katie's creative-misfit energy, and parents appreciate the surprisingly thoughtful commentary on our tech-saturated lives.
The animation is genuinely innovative (Sony's Spider-Verse team produced it, and it shows), and the story manages to be both wildly silly and emotionally resonant. Yes, there's a scene where the family defeats robots using a Furby army, and yes, you'll probably cry during the dad-daughter reconciliation.
It's modern enough that kids won't tune out (released 2021, feels current), funny enough to rewatch, and smart enough that you won't feel like you're rotting everyone's brain. The tech-dependence themes land without being preachy—the movie literally shows us all staring at phones while missing life, then has the family save humanity by working together IRL.
A few intense robot-capture sequences mean maybe wait until 6+, but otherwise this is the sweet spot of entertaining and enriching. Solid family movie night pick.
